Edna Robidas of the Trust for Public Land made a presentation at our April 2015 meeting about converting alleys to parks. She reported that there is a network of alleys within the CANNDU boundaries that through the Green Alley Master Plan study have been identified as high priority for redevelopment, primarily due to the lack of open space in the area. The map showed alleys identified in the south portion of our boudaries starting at Florence southward. The network of green alley projects proposed is shown below. Funding sources need to be secured before any of these improvements can be implemented- this is the first step before these projects can move forward.
The idea is to close the alley to cars, clean them up, change the paving to better handle water runoff, add greenery and artwork.
