CANNDU was pleased that the Ascot Library was dedicated to Poet Wanda Coleman on Novemer 30. Coleman died in 2013 and was thought of as an unofficial poet laureate of Los Angeles. According to the LA Times, "Coleman's poetry, full of creative vigor, often dealt with racism and violence, poverty and love, family and Los Angeles." Friends, fans and family had advocated for a permanent remembrance." Her widower in particular asked that this library that she visited as a child be dedicated to her, hoping to increase the poetry offerings here.
